Thanks a million Johnathon for all your contributions to the Blender community. If it wasn’t for people giving freely of their knowledge Blender wouldn’t be were it is today.

    Awesome tuts!

    Jonathan,

Thanks for taking the time to do this video! I’ve been playing with Blender doing cars, buildings, etc, but have been afraid to start doing character modeling until now. Very enjoyable, informative, and helpful.

Hey man, thanks for the tutorial it is great. I’m not done with the entire thing yet but I’ve almost finished it all, and you make it very easy to understand. Here’s a picture of it so far, just thought you might want to see someone else’s try at your tutorial.

hi jonathon i got some blueprints form the website you suggested and started this tutorial although i get about five minutes in and come across this problem: http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/7510/blenderproblem.jpg

any suggestions? the same problem happens if i try grab vertices using box select

    • jonathan says:

      @robert,

The problem you’re having is due to your cube being on both sides of the X axis. Before you add the mirror modifier be sure to add a loop cut down the center of your cube and then delete the left half (from the front view). This should solve your problem instantly :)

does anyone happen to know the audio codec to get the video from the torrent to play? the video is working, i just can’t hear anything :(

  9. Hi.

Someone – like me – those who are currently using any non-cable internet provider. They have a monthly transfer limit, and i would be gracefull if you could give any links to download your tutorials, so i can download it by any friend, and get start my blender educating. I have a 1gb monthly transfer limit, so… Yep, sad, but so it is in poland :)

And I saw that torrent link, but i have to get a non-peer-to-peer(etc) link because friends don’t want to download any illegal stuff.

Thx, and sorry for poor english.

  10. Hello, my name is Sergio Silva. I follow your work and you are very talented. I also I move in Blender, just that I’m not as good as you actually compare it were, I would be beginner near you. I would like you to visit my Blog (http://codename3d.blogspot.com/). He has a lot, because I just did, but after a certain time will have quite a lot. I’ll make a website for me too, but is still in development. His tutorials are very good and you have done well.

I cannot get the head. can you explain how to do it without the glasses?

  12. [...] here’s the tutorial:http://montagestudio.org/tutorials-page/modeling-tutorials-page/modeling-a-lowpoly-character/ (link to download hi-res version in the comments to the [...]

  13. @Jusint,

The rest of the head is almost exactly the same without the glasses. Rather than extruding the faces out to form the glasses shape just leave them as is. If you would like to take it a step further and give a shape to the eyes then just extrude the goggle portion of the glasses in and scale them down.

hi there, i have one quick question. what the name of the function that lets me import a jpeg(or gif) into blender. i have a few blueprints to use but i just can’t figure out how to get the jpeg in there. (in the import function it just shows thing like importing another model. not a pic.) thanks for the help.

  15. Zonron says:

nevermind i figured it out. i was doing it in the wrong blender(blender2.5 some build at graphics all)

  16. Darthie says:

  18. Giovanni says:

Great work great guy! So young and so great-.

  19. Ian says:

Allrighty I know I did something dumb and I am at a total loss. When I got to texture my model the legs have big gaping wholes in the side. But according to blender there are faces there. What on earth did I do wrong?

http://vainpageantry.deviantart.com/art/texturing-error-150383010 to see what I am talking about.

    • jonathan says:

It looks to me like the problem is due to flipped normals. You should be able to fix this by going into Edit mode, selecting all faces and then pressing cntrl + N to flip the normals.

  20. Ian says:

Thank you that worked like a charm.

  21. noypi says:

hey sir! thanks a lot!…you taught me how to make a human anatomy…

    Video doesn’t work.

  23. David Ryder says:

Hi Jonathan. You know you’re getting old when you’re doing web tutes made by people 20 years younger than you – hey I was a whizz kid once! But seriously, that was a great tutorial, and was just the thing I needed to demystify mesh modeling in Blender. Clear, precise instructions which are easy to follow and make sense, with a continuous commentary describing exactly what you’re doing. Many thanks, I look forward to watching the others!
