It recently came to my attention that all of the links to my CG Cookie tutorials were no longer correct due to the move to Blender Cookie. All of the links have now been fixed and are active once more!
I would also like to draw your attention to http://blendercookie.com where I have many, many new tutorials that I have not gotten around to posting here. You will find tutorials on everything from modeling a car to a topology overview of the human head and much more. If you have liked my previous tutorials here on Montage Studio then I think you will like a lot of the new ones. So far I have published over 30 tutorials with Blender Cookie and so you can obviously see that many of them are missing from here.
In this follow-up video tutorial to the Lightbulb Modeling tutorial, we look at how to take our model and a basic scene and apply various materials in order to get a semi-realistic effect. This tutorial covers the creation of materials for plastic, glass, metal, and a lit-up bulb!
In this video tutorial we will look at modeling a cartoon style praying mantis in Blender. This tutorial covers the entire modeling process, based from a sketch, and then goes to look at some basic materials and rendering.
I am pleased to announce that cgcookie.com is now offering a downloadable bundle of all of the blender modeling tutorials I have thus far producded for them! However, that’s the boring part… the exciting bit is that the bundle includes three exclusive blender tutorials that aren’t available anywhere else! These three tutorials take an in depth look at modeling a organic plant, a full creature head and a pair of retro headphones. I won’t blabber on too much but here is a list of what all is included in the bundle:
Creature Head (3 part series) EXCLUSIVE
Create a Flower Plant EXCLUSIVE
Model a set of headphones (2 part series)EXCLUSIVE
Complete Head Modeling Series (6 Parts)

Plus we threw in 4 timelapes videos
All in all there is over 7 hours of training, all in high-resolution (1280×960), .mov format. It also includes all of the source files for each tutorial. If this is of interest to you, head on over to the new CGCookie Shop to check it out!
Today I have another video tutorial for you all. This was posted a couple days back but I’ve only just gotten around to adding it to the blog.
This time around we’re looking at how to model and texture an old wooden barrel in Blender. In this video tutorial you’ll learn how to use Blender’s modifier system for non-destructive modeling that allows you to change the barrel very easily at almost any point in the process. It also users Blender’s new projection painting system to paint on the textures.
I hope you enjoy this tutorial and keep an eye out for more very soon (lighting rig and tutorial anyone?).
Making use of multiple modifiers and projection painting this tutorial covers the entire process of modeling and texturing an old, wooden barrel in Blender.
This is a project we have been working on for a while and are pleased to announce it’s launch!
Quoting the homepage:
“Mavenseed is an CG education website that offers private one on one training from an expert in the respective field.
The benefit of private one on one tutoring is that you are able to address your personal concerns, questions and goals immediately. There is no running through topics you already know in software manuals, or course requirements. Our instructors work with your schedule as best they can and are available to you for the requested time.”
It has been a real pleasure working with Wes and I am excited to be one of the first instructors to offer their services on the site. If you are interested in personal Blender training head on over!
With the release of Blender 2.49 comes the ability to stencil images onto your model via projection. This tutorial goes through the process texturing a head model with projection painting.
