Hey everyone!

I just wanted to share a few project with you guys. In the past few months I’ve been working at Deshed in Montréal. As a studio we mostly work on ads for different company. Some of them full CG, others with vfx work. I didn’t work on all of them. But I want to showcase the work of my collegues from DeShed. Truly great artists over there! Here’s a few of the projects:

Hey people, JS here,

well how to say. eh! I’ve been picked to be part of the Durian team! Now two third of the montagestudio team is working on Durian, quite funny if you ask me!
I’ll be leaving Montréal, Canada on January 23rd and stay there until the project is done in June.

This has a lot of impact on my current life. But here’s a few thing I want to share with you.

First, Packt publishing was kind enough to send me a copy of their book ‘Blender 3d Incredible Machines’. Due to some intense overtime work at the studio I work on, I couldn’t get to read and review it. And now with all the stuff I need to finish and prepare before leaving to Amsterdam, I won’t have time to give this book the proper time it deserve. So I suggest all of you to give it a look with this free sample Chapter. Finally, I had to cancel Blender courses I was giving at the Society of technological Arts in Montréal. No need to be a complete master of Blender, since the classes are really just introduction to the software. I’m really excited to announce that my collegues from school and myself received an award for ‘Best Texture’ in the CgSociety challenge ‘Secret Agent’! And gosh it feels good

We are on the last page unde the ‘Best Texture Award’.  I must congratulate my collegue Marc Lebuis, because he did most (as in, almost all except one or two object) of the texturing. Secret Agent!

ok ok, we had none of those 3 things I noted in the title of the post, but hey, me and a collegue (Marc Lebuis)  from school participated in the ‘Secret Agent’ CGChallenge on Cgsosiety.org Forum, one of the biggest, if not the biggest, 3d animation challenge. We finished right on time, and we are quite proud of our project. We must also thanks Derek McTavish Mounce, our music & sound genius, that did a masterpiece in about 24h before the deadline. If you are ever looking for a great composer, send him an email at d.mounce [at] fouressence.com

Most of the project was created in Softimage|XSI 7.01 but Blender also played an important role in production.  I used it to create alot of smaller 2d effects (on the interior of the cockpit’s glass and during the scanning sequence for exemple), but also to generate the first drafts of our animatic at the beginning. I edited all of it in the sequencer. I also used it to re-compress all our video for the final files, because it was simply better than adobe premiere to do that hehe  (adding Premiere to our workflow pipelane was a complete mistake on my part. I shouldn’t have used that software at all! stupid premiere!) .
