New Tutorial: Modeling and Texturing an Old Wooden Barrel in Blender

Today I have another video tutorial for you all. This was posted a couple days back but I’ve only just gotten around to adding it to the blog.

This time around we’re looking at how to model and texture an old wooden barrel in Blender. In this video tutorial you’ll learn how to use Blender’s modifier system for non-destructive modeling that allows you to change the barrel very easily at almost any point in the process. It also users Blender’s new projection painting system to paint on the textures.

    Great tutorial,
but I’m having a terrible time uv unwrapping the plank. It seems that every time I unwrap the face layout ends up totally un-proportional and looking nothing like the tutorial. Are there specific settings i should have when i unwrap? I’ve re-watched that section of the tutorial countless times to makes sure i was doing it right.

    Hey,

Same as ben, I’ve never been able to make the unwrapping come out correctly. I like the tutorial a lot, it’s done a bunch to help me familiarize myself with Blender.

I’ve figured a solution to my unwrapping problems. You can “bake” you object scale/rotation.
Simply go to object>clear/apply>apply scale/rotation to obj data.
That should fix your problems with unwrapping.
