High five for you as well Jonathan. Thanks a lot for your comprehensive overview. It is good that someone presents new features rather than having to discover them in small bits by reading tonnes of posts, links etc.

Great to see this video Jonathan! I was pretty intimidated from what I've seen of the revamped UI, but since your tutorials pretty much single handidly taught me character modeling in Blender, you were just the person to demystify the updates for me. Thanks!

Oh. My. God.
That looks damn sexy, and actually usable.
Not that the old versions weren't, but the learning curve seriously put me off every time I've attempted to switch.

I came across this video because I recently installed 2.9, and went in search of alternative GUI's (I'm an optimist).
During that search, I found that the blender forum 'regulars' were absolutely elitist.
Whenever there was a complaint (valid, or just .. complaining) about the GUI (lets face it... the learning curve moving from alternative 3d modelling/animation is extreme), the regulars would respond in an .. unsympathetic manner.
I can only imagine how many people, looking to switch to open source, were put off by the GUI, and the 'community' (read: exclusive club).

On that note, currently there are very few open source projects that really *do* succeed at decent UI design, but that appears to be changing (look at some of the newer Linux Distro's, my grandparents could almost use 'em!). Thank god for that.

All hail 2.5
(@Mike Futcher: It should be blender3, especially if it's rebuilt from the ground up)

I'm lookin forward for it...
But the big thing i wating for is the MATERIAL EDITOR...!!!
The old one is very confuse me...n so bad...!!
would that be material editor look like in MAX, present on Blender 2.5???
The good thing on Max's material editor is the material slots...!!! we can easy mix our material on their own slot, n easy to maintenance...
hope the B25 would be fix it..
but the other looks great can't wait fot it..
GBU...

Look I think the video was great.

as a "commercial" user, all I can say is well done, its leaps and bounds better.

What I was waiting to hear was ALT Key Navigation. Thats a MUST.
To help migrate as you say "commercial" users to Blender, it's got to be in there.
There can be the current system too, so don't panic.

But some of the things mentioned are there the layout, the split windows, but please DONT forget the NAVIGATION.

I dont know how many times I've seen (me included) commercial users throw Blender out just because of that. Cant pick up and go. Thats the way the commercial world is now, instant productivity required. That's why you must have it in there, to change Blender from an alternative, to a player.

I thought the joke, "that's gonna make modeling tough", was a great line.

Well done to all, great video, I'll be looking at this when its released.
