I’m in Amsterdam right now, working on the Durian project titled ‘Sintel’. You can of course follow our progress on the short movie here: http://durian.blender.org The movie is progressing well in the last few weeks. Some big news are going to be annonced on the blog over there this week. So make sure you give it a look everyday!
On other news, Olympic Games started in my home country Canada. I hope everyone is having a good time following their country progress there What does olympic have to do with this blog you ask? Well, Olympic games are associated with alot of people watching it, so obviously company take the opportunity to create ads for them! At the studio where I work in Montreal (www.deshed.com), we created a serie of ads for the company Rona who sponsored the Olympic in Vancouver by providing construction materials and worker to build the different venues.
The studio did the first one that plays when the website open (codenamed ‘Rona Tape’) and as for myself, I mostly worked on the two ads in the ‘Venues’ section of the website. I hope you’ll enjoy them
It recently came to my attention that all of the links to my CG Cookie tutorials were no longer correct due to the move to Blender Cookie. All of the links have now been fixed and are active once more!
I would also like to draw your attention to http://blendercookie.com where I have many, many new tutorials that I have not gotten around to posting here. You will find tutorials on everything from modeling a car to a topology overview of the human head and much more. If you have liked my previous tutorials here on Montage Studio then I think you will like a lot of the new ones. So far I have published over 30 tutorials with Blender Cookie and so you can obviously see that many of them are missing from here.
I just wanted to share a few project with you guys. In the past few months I’ve been working at Deshed in Montréal. As a studio we mostly work on ads for different company. Some of them full CG, others with vfx work. I didn’t work on all of them. But I want to showcase the work of my collegues from DeShed. Truly great artists over there! Here’s a few of the projects:
well how to say. eh! I’ve been picked to be part of the Durian team! Now two third of the montagestudio team is working on Durian, quite funny if you ask me!
I’ll be leaving Montréal, Canada on January 23rd and stay there until the project is done in June.
This has a lot of impact on my current life. But here’s a few thing I want to share with you.
First, Packt publishing was kind enough to send me a copy of their book ‘Blender 3d Incredible Machines’. Due to some intense overtime work at the studio I work on, I couldn’t get to read and review it. And now with all the stuff I need to finish and prepare before leaving to Amsterdam, I won’t have time to give this book the proper time it deserve. So I suggest all of you to give it a look with this free sample Chapter. The book looks like a great ressource, especially about the external renderers: http://www.packtpub.com/files/7467-blender-3d-incredible-machines-sample-chapter-6-steampunk-spacecraft.pdf
And here’s a link to the book itself: http://www.packtpub.com/blender-3d-2-49-incredible-machines/book
Finally, I had to cancel Blender courses I was giving at the Society of technological Arts in Montréal. If anyone living in the area that are willing to make some money and share their Blender Knowledge. I think they would greatly appreciate a new teacher there. No need to be a complete master of Blender, since the classes are really just introduction to the software. If you are interested, please email the ‘transform’ department on the Society of technological art website (here: transform@weber.sat.qc.ca )
I have not done a very good job of updating this blog recently, but I did want to point you all towards part 01 of my latest tutorial Blender Cookie on modeling a Porsche 911 GT3 RS!
This multi-part tutorial I take a close look at how to model a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Due to the nature of the car the tutorial encompasses a lot of techniques from both organic modeling and hard-body modeling styles. A particular emphasis is placed on creating good topology that will enable you to easily modify the shape but also to accurately create the details.
Part 01 of the this tutorial details how to create the base of the front end.
I hope you like it and as always I love hearing your feedback!
The first official 2.50 release is set to be released tomorrow. This is a very exciting time for Blender heads, this has been in development for over two years! Obviously there is still a lot of work to be done, this is only an alpha release, but it just goes to show how good the development team behind Blender is. And the community!
Note: these logs are not complete yet, Matt Ebb is still working through them but they are a good place to start if you are not familiar with everything that has changed in 2.5.
I am pleased to announce that www.blendercookie.com launched mid-last week! Over the last year I have been working very closely with Wes Burke from www.cgcookie.com on training material for Blender. Starting out Blender represented only a small portion of the site, but almost over night it exploded, taking over more than 50% of the daily traffic. It soon became clear to us that Blender deserved it’s own home within the cookie family, thus Blender Cookie came into being.
What is Blender Cookie?
Blender Cookie is a site dedicated to supplying consistent, high quality, blender education materials produced by certified trainers from around the globe. By offering high resolution streaming videos, written education, developer interviews and featured resources, we aim to be the central hub for blender education.
OUR GOALS OF THIS SITE.
To offer blender education to artists around the world
Participate in community events, contests and give back to the community
Support the foundation and further development of blender
Have a bit of fun.
I for one, am very excited about this whole project. We have very high hopes for the site and a lot of plans with where we would like to take it. If you watch closely you will see a few of those plans materializing over the next few weeks!
Speaking for both Wes and myself, I truly hope you enjoy this site as much as we have enjoyed creating it. There are a lot of exciting things in the pipeline and I would like to thank all of you as none of it could have happened if it weren’t for all of your incredible support. Thank you all!
Enjoy and I look forward to hearing your comments.
I’m really excited to announce that my collegues from school and myself received an award for ‘Best Texture’ in the CgSociety challenge ‘Secret Agent’! And gosh it feels good
We are on the last page unde the ‘Best Texture Award’. I must congratulate my collegue Marc Lebuis, because he did most (as in, almost all except one or two object) of the texturing. And he did it in the last 48hours of the contest hehe. He just rocks! If any employer want him as a texture artist, or as a generalist contact him at marc.lebuis.3dart [at] gmail.com
You can either view our project on the winners page, or here:
