Airship, a timelapse modeling series!

Hey guys,

Well we have been quite busy lately with contracts and personal stuff, sorry for the lack of updates on our website! But don’t worry, we’ll have some cool stuff to show and talk about in the upcoming weeks!

As of now, let me announce a new video series by Montage Studio! The Airship timelapse modeling series!

At first, the airship project was suppose to be the subject of a full commentary/voice-over video explaining everything I was doing.  Unfortunatly, paid work and school got in the way, and I had no time (and don’t expect to have much time in the near future) to record my voice over the fifteen+ hours of recording.

Don’t fear, though! These recorded modelling session aren’t lost! I decided to split them into different parts, speed them up and add music to make them interesting. And today, I proudly release (completely free! yeah yeah!) the first part of this series!

The modeling should be pretty straight foward, but if you have any questions about the technique I used, feel free to email me at: jsguillemette at montagestudio dot org with your question and the referenced time in the video. Next week, when I release PART 2, I’ll write a post with the answers to the questions I receive!

I hope you’ll enjoy the video as much I enjoyed modeling that ship!

Airship – modeling timelapse Part1 from Js Guillemette on Vimeo.

As I said, this is the first part in a series of about 6 videos showcasing the whole modeling of an Airship. The original time on this particular part is around 3h30.

This is the final model:

The music comes from this blog: leoscarax.blogspot.com/
It’s a song made out of quotes from french movies related to Leos Carax (mostly ‘Mauvais Sang’) and songs from different artists mixed together.

I hope you enjoy the watch, if you have any questions feel free to email me at jsguillemette at montagestudio.org

If you get time, sign me up for the DVD. If you go step by step I will buy it without a doubt.

    Very very impressive and inspiring.
I am amazed at how confident you are at modeling; i notice you rarely ever delete edge-loops or vertices :)
Thank you very much Js. I’ll try to put my questions together and email you :) ..
best wishes to you and montagestudio.

Are you going to release the full length capture as well? Would be nice to study the stunning technique in real-time.

  6. Very cool model and… of course, modeling techniques clear and effective! Also very nice the concept of the ship. Bravo! :)

  7. Nathan: Thanks for the info, I just edited it. Should work now.

Litterate: I doubt I’ll be able to release the full time capture. The whole thing is more than 20hours long. If some part confuses you, make sure to email me with your questions!

    And everyone, thanks :D

yes, very nice! thx for the vid!

but for the maximum impact I think it’s going on too fast. Maybe realtime is overkill, but 10h instead of 20h would be possible?

Real cool stuff and there’s much to learn here but it’s too fast. If you can slow down the timelapse, it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers and thanks for sharing your ideas and expertise.

  12. Well all I can say is someone should be forcing you at gun point forcing you to get the full video with voice over details on all of this released. I would buy it in a shot.

If you release it, it will be as good as printing money. Though payloadz would melt im sure :P

  13. Hey thanks everyone! just to let you guys know the 2nd part should be uploaded soon!

I reduced the speed to 5-6x the original instead of 8-9 times..should be way better!

Terry, haha well it’s not that I don’t want, and it’s not even about the money. It’s the time. I just have no time to edit together a dvd with voice. At a later time, in a year maybe!
